Obituary for
Clara "Belle" Walker (Keene)
Clara Belle Keene Walker, 92, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. She was born on September 2, 1926 in Hampton, Florida to Joseph Carlton and Fannie Esther (Comer) Keene Jr. as the eighth of ten children. Clara enjoyed being part of a large family and considered her brothers and sisters to be her truest friends.
Clara joined the US Navy during WWII, working as a postmistress. During this time she met Lemuel, a Naval Lieutenant (retired), and the two were married in 1946. The couple welcomed their three children as Lemuel continued his military service. Through Clara’s can-do spirit, the young family made homes in Guam, Puerto Rico, Germany, and the Great Lakes and Washington D.C. areas before returning to Florida. Clara was happiest outside in the sunshine and every home was made more beautiful by her love of gardening.
Clara was a devoted, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her husband enjoyed genealogy and in 1995, Clara was privileged to serve as a missionary at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Clara’s greatest joys were experienced through her family, who loved and cherished her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel E. Walker and her sons, Larry C. Walker and Terrance L. Walker. She is survived by her daughter, Clarissa Memory (Bill), her grandchildren, Shane Walker, Andrea Stoddard (Daniel), Christi Fusco (John), Brian Memory (Aimee), Lacey Dendel (Peter), Erin Memory, Laura Teschel, Will Walker, and her 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2018, at Barrancas National Cemetery.
