Obituary for Delores Lamarr "Jimmie" Castleberry (Arnold)

Delores Lamarr "Jimmie" Castleberry (Arnold)
Delores Arnold Castleberry
1939-2018

Delores Arnold Castleberry, age 78, died on August 10, 2018 in Baker, Florida.
Arrangements are handled by Lewis Funeral Home of Milton, Florida. A graveside service will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens, Pine Forest Rd., Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at 3 PM.

Delores, nicknamed ‘Jimmie’, was born on Sept. 21, 1939 in Max Meadows, Virginia. She was the eldest child of Cleo Agnes Arnold and Adrian Leicester Arnold. She lived her first thirteen years in Wythe County Virginia on a five-hundred acre farm at the base of the most beautiful Virginia mountains. This property had belonged to the family since the 18th century. Captivating stories of mountain life, including running away from panthers and bobcats, were often told by Delores, her mother and her grandmother. Even after living in Tokyo Japan and various other bases in the U.S. and finally the Gulf Coast of Florida, she proudly remained a girl of the Virginia Mountains.

She deeply loved her family and had most of her children, grandchildren and in-laws living very near her until the end of her life. Notably was her granddaughter and primary caregiver Bobbie Lee, whom she loved and valued more than the finest gold. Bobbie Lee became a most loving caregiver to her grandmother, particularly, the last year while Delores was under Home Hospice Care. Husband John, grandson Wayne, Jr., sons Johnny and Barry Wayne, Sr., brother Barry and his wife Margaret and her best friends Sandy and Bobbie of Airlane Drive were Delores’ steadfast support throughout her life. Her grandmother, father Adrian and mother Cleo were the ground on which she stood tall and became herself. And God was, is and always will be her fortress and salvation.

Delores was preceded in death by her grandmother, and grandfather Blanche and John Fisher, parents Cleo and Adrian Arnold, husband John, sons Johnny and Barry Wayne, Sr.

Delores is survived by her granddaughter Bobbie Lee, grandson Wayne, Jr., and step-granddaughter Dana Lewis all of Baker, Florida; her brother and his wife Dr. Barry and Margaret Arnold of Milton, Florida; first cousins Anthony, Joyce Lee, David, Linda, Mary Ruth and Dianne all of Virginia.
