Obituary for Clarence Devon "C. Devon" Summerlin

Clarence Devon "C. Devon" Summerlin
C. Devon Summerlin, age 80, of Milton, Florida, entered into Heaven on Saturday, November 18, 2017, following a long life filled with love, joy, and happiness.

Devon was born in Holt, Florida, on March 7, 1937, to the late J.D. and Ossie (Bass) Summerlin.

Devon graduated from Baker High School in 1955, following many sporting achievements which included a State Basketball Championship his graduating year, as well as receiving letters in basketball, baseball, and football. He retired after 38 years of dedicated service to the Monsanto Corporation. He was a Master Mason and long time member of Hadji Shriner’s Temple, a phase in his life which he truly enjoyed. He was also a member of Olivet Baptist Church.

An extremely proud father and grandfather, Devon enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports of all kinds. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and the simpler pleasures of life. A wise, humble, and intelligent man, he was always full of encouragement and kind words for anyone that needed them. Loved and cherished by many, Devon will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kimberly Summerlin.

Devon is survived by the love and light of his life, wife of 49 years, Mary (Cotton) Summerlin; his son, Dr. David (Mary Jo) Summerlin; his daughter, Kathy (Johnny) Summerlin-Alford; grandchildren, Jason (Vanessa) Leger, Sarah Summerlin, Chad (Erica) Summerlin, and Caleb Summerlin. He is also survived by many brothers-and-sisters-in-law and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Olivet Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Olivet Baptist Church. Burial will follow services in Good Hope Congregational Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made, in Devon’s name, to The Shriner’s Hospital in care of Hadji Shriner’s Temple in Pensacola.
