Robert N Adams
Lt. Col (Ret) Robert N. Adams, 86, of Navarre, Florida, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., at Barrancas National Cemetery with Rev. Terry Weber-Rodriguez officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre, Florida.
Please gather at 11:30 a.m., at Lewis Funeral Home (7794 Navarre Parkway, Navarre, Florida 32566) to join the processional that will leave for Barrancas promptly at 12:00 noon. To attend the funeral at Barrancas, joining the processional is mandatory due to security on the base.
Robert was born in Scotland, Illinois, on January 11, 1931. He was the second of three children born to parents James Forrest and Ruth Adams. He grew up in Chrisman, Illinois, graduating from Chrisman High School, and continued on to receive a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois.
He was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1954 and proudly served for 25 years. He was a C-130 pilot, served in Vietnam and went on to become Squadron Commander of the 773rd Tactical Airlift Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley Adams; children, Charlie (Karen) Adams of Lubbock Texas, Jim (Sylvia Ounpuu) Adams of Bolton, Connecticut, and Kathy (Doug) Kubitz of Niceville, Florida; grand-children, Jay Adams, Ashley Markusen, Adam Kubitz, Laura Kubitz, Nevin Ounpuu-Adams, Zoe Ounpuu-Adams; great-grandchildren, Ryann Adams and Leah Irie Markusen; and his faithful dog, Rusty.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Forrest and Ruth Adams; his siblings, Martha Fulton and Dale Adams; and his daughter, Janice Marie Adams.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to Emerald Coast Hospice, (340 Beal Pkwy NW, Suite C, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548). The family wishes a very special thank you to the staff at Emerald Coast Hospice for the care they provided, and especially to Tiffany, his nurse.
