Obituary for Mary Ann Troxell
Mary Ann Frances Troxell, 96, of Navarre, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018.
Mrs. Troxell will be taken to Yuma, Arizona, for services and burial. A memorial service will be held in Mary Esther, Florida, on December 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Mary Esther.
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Ann Trendle Troxell, departed this life on November 18, 2018, at her home in Navarre, Florida. She was born Mary Frances Ann Forler on January 7, 1922, in Evansville, Indiana, to Frank and Cleo Marie Forler. Her father was a manager for the Kresge Company, which involved frequent moves throughout the Midwest in the 1920s and 1930s. One of these moves brought her to Peoria, Illinois, where she met and married Loren F. Trendle. This is also where she spent the early years of her marriage until World War II. During the war, she traveled the South, following her husband as he trained for the Army Air Corps. After the war, the family returned to Peoria, where their first child, Becky, was born.
One of the favorite periods of her life was the almost eight years they spent living in Banes, Cuba, as her husband worked for the United Fruit and Sugar Company. Their second daughter, Cathy, was born in Cuba. It was a time of great joy and happiness for Mary Ann that she remembered all her life.
In 1955, the Trendles returned to the United States, settling in Fullerton, Nebraska. They spent the next 40 years of their lives in Nebraska where their children grew up and were married. They also lived in Norfolk and Columbus, Nebraska, due to transfers with Loren’s company. In the 1990s, Mary Ann and Loren sold their home on Stires’ Lake in Columbus and became permanent residents of Arizona, living near their two daughters and their families.
Just after their sixtieth wedding anniversary, Mary Ann lost her much loved husband, Loren Trendle. She remarried several years later to Robert Tanner. After his death from cancer a few months later, she remained near family and friends in Yuma, Arizona. At age 90, she met and married Wayne Troxell, Sr. and moved to California until his death. She then made the decision to move to Navarre, Florida, to live near family. She was active in the WINGS (widows) group at First Baptist Church of Mary Esther, Florida, and a member of the Navarre Senior Center. She loved going to the beach with her friend and caregiver, Cledis Ellis, who took such wonderful care of her.
Mary Ann loved her family and friends. She also loved to dance as well as travel. She was an excellent golfer and was taught to hunt and fish at an early age by her outdoorsman father. She always inspired to write about her experiences living in Cuba. At the age of 95, she accomplished that dream and published her first book, “The Real Cuba,” which documented her family’s life among the wonderful Cuban people.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father; her sister, Betty Mae Forler; her brother, C. Richard (Dick) Forler; her first husband of sixty years, Loren F. Trendle; her second husband, Robert Tanner; her third husband, Wayne Troxell; and her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca “Becky” and H. Fred Boelts.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy (Trendle) and Jack Baldwin of Lakeside, Arizona; and her grandchildren, Heidi (Boelts) and Wiley Allgood of Navarre, Florida, Robert “Bob” and Jennifer Boelts of Oxnard, California, John and Alicia Boelts of Yuma, Arizona, Ben and Leilani Baldwin of Mesa, Arizona, and Kate (Baldwin) and Jeff Fassett of Phoenix, Arizona; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
We wish to thank so many friends who came to visit or sent cards to Mary Ann while she was ill over the past few months.
Funeral services will be held at Sunset Vista Funeral Home in Yuma, Arizona, on Saturday, December 1, 2018, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., and the funeral at 2:00 p.m., followed by internment.
Pallbearers are her grandsons and great-grandsons: Bob Boelts, John Boelts, Ben Baldwin, Preston Boelts, Wiley D. Allgood, John Andrew Boelts, Matthew Boelts and Morgan Curry.
Honorary pallbearers are: Jack Baldwin, Jeff and Cameron Fassett, and Salvador Gomez.
A memorial service will be held in Mary Esther, Florida, on December 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Mary Esther.
