Obituary for Wayland Terry Foster

Wayland Foster, 77, of Milton, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018.

Wayland Terry Foster was born July 31, 1941, to Vaudie Beatrice Polk Foster and Willie Joe Foster of Jay, Florida.

Wayland graduated from Jay High School in 1959 with letters in baseball, football, and basketball. He received his bachelor's degree from Troy State College in 1963, and his masters from University of West Florida.

He taught and coached at Belleview Middle School, Jay High School, Milton High School, and Diamond High School in Anchorage, Alaska. After returning to Florida, he taught at Pace Elementary, was assistant principal at King Middle School in Milton, and became the first principal of Pea Ridge Elementary.

He grew up as a member of First Baptist Church in Jay and later moved his membership of many decades to First Baptist Church of Milton. He is also a proud member of the Santa Rosa County Creek Indian Tribe.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed many sporting activities including High School sports, football and baseball at Troy State College, playing for Joe's House of Pizza softball team in the 60s and 70s, and golfing. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and drinking coffee with his friends every morning.

Wayland is survived by his wife, Hilda Foster; his daughter, Anja (Don) DeLoach; son, Shayne; and a granddaughter, Jessica.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Milton, with Dr. David Spencer and Dr. Jonathan Russell officiating. Burial will be held at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home of Milton directing.

Visitation will be held 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., prior to the services.
