Obituary for Donald Erwin Leslie

Donald Erwin “Don” Leslie, age 87, died Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the North Okaloosa Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Olivet, Michigan, to the late Chester and Lois (Kain) Leslie. Don was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving as a front-line air traffic controller for the United States Air Force. Following his retirement from active duty, Don lived in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, working at Eglin Air Force Base, before moving to Crestview, Florida. Don was an avid motorcyclist, who loved taking cross country trips on his bike, and camping with his wife in their motorhomes and travel trailers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Max and Ralph; and his sons, Michael and James.

Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Velma; two sons; Robert Leslie (Marla) and Ronald Smith (Sandra); two brothers, Robert Leslie (Phyllis) and Joseph Leslie (Patricia); six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A “Celebration of Don’s Life” will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel (6405 Hwy 90 West, Milton, Florida 32570), with Rev. Mike Poston officiating. Burial will follow services in Crain Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., prior to the services.
