Obituary for Joyce R Brandt

Joyce R Brandt
Joyce Rebecca Suell Brandt, age 84, walked into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, August 4, 2018.

She was born February 7, 1934, in the family home in Evergreen, Alabama. She was the third of four children born to the late Whitman Pleze & Minnie Lou Suell. While working her first job as a soda jerk in Wright’s Drug Store in Foley, Alabama, she met the love of her life, Rodney John Brandt, Sr. The two were married for 35 years, until his passing in 1987.

Mrs. Brandt served her country proudly as a Navy wife during her husband’s 30-year military career. Through deployments and moves, she was the calm constant for her family. Her husband’s final tour brought them home to the Gulf Coast, where they retired to Milton, Florida.

Mrs. Brandt had a strong faith in God, always making sure her family attended Chapel on base. She became a member of Christ United Methodist Church when she moved to Milton.

She is survived by her five children, Rodney (Elaine) Brandt, Jr., James (Janet) Brandt, Kathy (Jerry) Wesley, Kay (Robert) Martinez, and Irving Brandt; and her grandchildren, Jessica (Daniel) Lapen, Rodney “John” (Leslie) Brandt, III, Megan (Jonathon) McGrady, Rodney Wesley, and Rex Wesley. She also was blessed to be a part of the lives of her seven great-grandchildren, Kinu and Micah Lapen, Gavin, Heaven, and Annabelle Brandt, and Blake and Lauren Wesley.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Pastor Ronnie Bearden, of Christ United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow services at 1:00 p.m., at Barrancas National Cemetery, aboard Pensacola Naval Air Station.

Pallbearers are Irving Brandt, John Brandt, Jon McGrady, Daniel Lapen, Brian Simmons, and Glen Simmons.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Covenant Care or Christ United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at both Sacred Heart Hospital and Covenant Hospice for their loving care toward Mrs. Brandt during her final months of life.

Psalm 31:28 “Her children rise up and call her blessed.”
