Obituary for Mabel L Peacock

Mabel L Peacock, 91, of Milton, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018.

Mabel was born March 12, 1927, in Sheldon, Illinois, to the late Glen and Alice (Dewey) Sanderson. She retired as bookkeeper, and in general, “the Jane of all trades” at the restaurant on Naval Air Station Whiting Field. Mabel was a God-fearing woman and raised her children in church, teaching them of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church for over forty years. She loved to work in VBS, sing in the choir, and always enjoyed being a member of the “Jolly Seniors” Senior Adult Ministry. She loved watching birds and seeing her roses grow. She loved her grandbabies with a passion, but one thing they all knew was “you don’t be messing with Grandma’s hair.”

She is preceded in death by her mother, Alice Dewey Sanderson; her father and step-mother, Glen and Frances Utt Sanderson; three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Floyd Sanderson; one sister, Helen Jean Frazie; two grandsons, Gerold David Dunkle and James Richard “Jimbo” Coon; two great-granddaughters, Kerri Anne-Marie Newton and Rayna Rose Harvey; and her nephew, Tim Shock.

Mabel is survived by her three daughters, Jac “Jacie” Elaine (Tim Banks) Sullivan, Jerri Anne (Raymond) Lay and Billie Lee (Frankie) Coon; seven grandchildren, Robyn (Dave) Halvorsen, Kimberly Montford, Tim “Bryan” (Julia) Banks, Raymond “Brady” (Dixie) Lay, Shae Michelle (Nathan) Harvey, Zachary Gordon (Mariah) Lay and Sandra “Sandy” (James) Coon; and a very special friend, Judy Simmons. She also leaves to cherish “GG’s” memory, her great-grandchildren, Darian, Ethan, Douglas, Kalob, Dillon, Bryan, Matthew “Beau”, Tucker, Timothy, Jeralyn, Reed, Gabriel, Ayden and Austin.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 3, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Rev. Jim Liberacki officiating. Interment will follow services in Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., prior to the services.
