Obituary for Jeffrey Allen Burgess

Jeffrey Allen Burgess
Jeffrey Allen Burgess, 69, of Milton, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018. Jeff was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, on July 4, 1948, to Charles and Muriel (Snyder) Burgess.

The following is in Jeff’s words: “I joined the Navy on October 30, 1978. I enjoyed serving onboard my first ship, the USS Shasta (AE-33) (three deployments). I was stationed at Naval Hospital Subic Bay, where for the first two years, I was the corpsman for Company “B” Marines Cubi Point (Jungle Runners). The last two years were as the only Navy Medivac Clerk at the Naval Hospital for the Philippines.

The Philippines is where I met and was married to the Love of my life, Corazon C. Burgess, on October 15, 1981. We went on our first date on February 13, 1981 (a Friday). I bought her one dozen of Red Roses that night, and the next morning I asked her if she watered the roses. Her reply was--- no need, they are FAKE!! (I always gave her One Dozen of Red Roses every year on our anniversary, even after her death.)

Upon returning to the United States, I was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA .. Units “BLT 2/1, BLT 1/1, BLT 3/1..(all of the Battalion Landing Team Units were all highly trained in Special Operation Capability) and 9th Commutation Battalion. While I was at Pendleton, I deployed on the USS Tarawa LHA 1 (for two deployments) and the USS Peleliu LHA 5 (for one deployment).

After leaving Pendleton, I was assigned to Medical Clinic Gulfport, Mississippi, home of the Seabees, as Chief Master of Arms and Emergency Vehicle Instructor for all at the clinic.

I departed Gulfport, Mississippi, for a six-month administrative school in San Diego, California, which sent me to the USS Ashland LSD 48, where I retired from the Navy.

After leaving the Navy, Cora and I moved to Milton, Florida, where I enjoyed many kinds of employment…. With two of the greatest being, Senior Cemetery Representative at Barrancas National Cemetery for six years, and then working part-time at Lewis Funeral Homes with the Greatest Personnel anyone could ever ask for!”

Jeff was preceded in death by his wife, Cora, in 2016. At 4:00 p.m., on Friday, June 29, 2018, he received his greatest wish….to “Go Home, to be with My Cora!” His final mission was accomplished!

Jeff is survived by his son, Robert Burgess, of Milton; and so very many friends. Jeff NEVER met a stranger, and if you ever met Jeff, he would have you laughing in just a short time. He will be greatly missed by so many!
Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Rev. Mike Poston and Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating. V.F.W. Post #4833, Military Order of the Cooties services will follow.

Graveside Funeral Services, with U.S. Navy Military Honors, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018, at Barrancas National Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.

“ Life is short……..LOVE is FOREVER!”
