Obituary for Nolen Eugene "Gene" Lewis

Nolen Eugene "Gene" Lewis
Nolen Eugene “Gene” Lewis, 69, of Milton, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018, surrounded by loved ones.

Gene was born in his family home on January 19, 1949. He was second of ten children born to Bertha Smith Knight of Milton, Florida. Gene attended Encinal High School in Alameda, California, and graduated in 1967. He then met the love of his life, Karen, in Alameda and they married in 1968. Shortly after, Gene was drafted into the Army but decided his military service of choice would be the Navy. Gene joined the Navy in 1968. He was enlisted in the Navy for three years and was honorably discharged in 1971.

After being discharged from the Navy, Gene went back to Alameda where he worked at the automotive shop that he had worked at in high school. After working there for a few years, he decided to try out different trades where he worked at a papermill and as a security guard. His love for the automotive industry brought him back to his high school automotive job, which he purchased and successfully operated it as his own automotive business, Lewis Bay Street Automotive, for ten years. In 1994, Gene decided to retire from owning his own business and brought his family back to his home town of Milton, Florida. There he gained employment as a night supervisor at Moldex for a few years then he moved on from there to Goodyear Tire, where he worked for twenty years. Gene retired from the automotive business and Goodyear Tire in 2015.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Smith Knight; father, Roger Knight; and his brother, John Lewis.

Gene is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen Lewis, of Alameda, California; his son, Justin (Patrizia) Lewis; two daughters, Michele (Steve) Scott and Annmarie (Randy) Bray. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Williams, Brenda Czanderna, Betty Morrelle and Becky Knight; his brothers, David Lewis, Donald Lewis, Perry Lewis and Junior Knight. Gene also leaves behind to cherish his memory, ten grandchildren, Cecily (Derek) Clayton, Skyler Scott, Bodhi Scott, Dalton Scott, Brianna (Keaton) Gross, Paul Bray, Gracieann Bray, Gabriel Bray, Leianna Bray and Benjamin Eugene Lewis; and one great grandchild, Brooklynn Gross.

A private memorial service will be held by close family.

Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, Florida, has been entrusted with arrangements.
