Obituary for William Robert "Bill" Fair
On Thursday, March 22, 2018, my beloved husband, William Robert “Bill” Fair, began his journey to join his parents, Robert and Mary Jane, and beloved grandmother, Mabel Fair.
He was born October 14, 1938, in Sturgis, Michigan. Bill joined the US Navy at the age of 18, retiring May 1977, as a Chief Hull Technician. He served on the USS Fort Mandan, USS Spiegel Grove, USS Raleigh, USS Cadmus, USS Wrangell, USS St Louis and the USS Guadalupe. He served four years in Tucson, AZ, as a Navy Recruiter, and three years in Pearl Harbor, HI, with Fleet Training Group.
He and his wife, Virginia, would have celebrated 58 years of marriage in April.
Bill is survived by his wife, Virginia; three sons, Michael Fair of Raleigh, North Carolina, Steven Fair of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and Mark Fair of Mt. Olive, Illinois; six grandchildren, Katie Levy, Thomas Fair, Corbin Fair, Peyton Fair, Hannah Fair and Dennis Fair; three great-grandsons, Declan Fair, Liam Fair and Luka Fair; brother and sisters-in-law, David and Nancy Lee of Memphis, Tennessee, and Phillip and Verdie Lee of New Bern, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 26, 2018, at Barrancas National Cemetery, Shelter A.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Disabled Vets, Salvation Army, Hospice or United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
