Geraldine was born June 23, 1933, in Milligan, Florida, to the late Eben and Leola (Vann) Stewart. She was a cheerleader and graduated Milton High School in 1950. She married the love of her life, James B. “Jimmy” Cowan in 1953. They were married for 53 years.

Geraldine was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Pea-Ridge. She worked as a secretary at Pace Elementary School and Kings Middle School and retired from Pea Ridge Elementary School. She enjoyed taking care of her family and she gave every ounce of her love and affection to them. She was an avid gardener and loved working in her flowers. She and Jimmy enjoyed traveling all over the country in their RV.

Mrs. Cowan is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmy Cowan; grandson, Kevin Cowan; and son-in-law, Mike Ward.

She is survived by her three children, Cindy Ward, James B. “Burt” (Janet) Cowan Jr. and Marla Cowan; three grandchildren, Kelly Alvarez, Adam (Jessica) Ward, and Marina Stangeland; six great-grandchildren, Chandler, Lexie, Madison, Alivia, Max and Avery; brother, Harold (Dot) Stewart; sister, Clora “Peggy” (Charles) King; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel, with Pastor Felix Munoz officiating. Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Burial will be private at a later time.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Windermere Memory Care Center for all the wonderful care, love and support they gave to their mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made, in Geraldine’s name, to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
