Obituary for Errick Lee Schafer

Errick Lee Schafer, 36 years old, of Navarre, Florida, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.

Errick was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on August 7, 1981. He attended Goose Creek High School. Errick joined the U.S. Air Force where he enlisted to serve as an Aircraft Firefighter. He served in the U.S. Air Force from April 2001 to March 2011, with multiple deployments to the Middle East.

Errick was previously stationed at Fairchild AFB in Washington State, before settling at Egiln AFB. After his service in the military, Errick began a career on Eglin AFB, continuing as a civilian Aircraft Firefighter. His career was cut short due to his diagnosis of ALS.

Errick is survived by his wife of almost 16 years, Sulin Schafer; two sons, Joshua and Christian; his mother, Donna Schafer; father, Scott Schafer; sister, Adrien; and brother, Kenny.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Naval Air Station Pensacola Chapel (250 Chambers Ave., Pensacola, Florida 32508.) Burial will follow services in Barrancas National Cemetery, with Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre, directing.

Visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., prior to the services.

The Schafer Family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Vitas Home Health for their compassionate hospice care. We’d also like to thank Errick’s caregivers who provided care on a daily basis during his time of illness. Thank you to our brothers and sisters at Eglin AFB Fire Department for continuing to reach out to our family through the entire process of Errick’s illness. Thank you to all our family, friends, and neighbors who showed great support during this very difficult time.
