Obituary for Katie Marnia "Marina" Johnson (Reaves)

Katie Marnia "Marina" Johnson (Reaves)
Katie Marina (Reaves) Johnson
1933 – 2018

Katie “Marina” Johnson went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2018. She loved being surrounded by her beloved family. Marina was a devoted woman of God who loved sharing her faith with family and friends.

Marina was born on July 13, 1933, in Pensacola, FL, to Marshall John “Rebel” and Myrtle Mamer Reaves. She was the eldest of six children residing in Tater Town. She attended Bethany Church of God throughout her childhood, a church founded by her Grandmother. She was an active member of Baywoods Assembly of God since November 19, 1978. Marina was a successful entrepreneur and started her own business caring for the elderly. Along with her faith, she enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing train with her family and friends.

Marina was all about Faith and Family. She was the matriarch, “boss lady” and truly a walking miracle by the grace of God. Marina was the most intensely loyal person you ever met toward her family. She exhibited pride in each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She greatly identified with each of their talents and abilities to the extent she claimed their gifts and blue eyes always came from her. Even in their failures, Grandmama was unwavering in her support. She dismissed no one for their mistakes. Once you belonged to her, whether family or friend, you became a part of her forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall John “Rebel” Reaves and Myrtle Mamer (Majors) Reaves; her husband, Sanford Eugene “Buddy” Johnson, Sr.; her brother, Marshall “John” Reaves, Jr.; her sister, Jeanette Harris Dukes; and her brother, Jimmy Ray Reaves.

Marina is survived by her loving family, her four children, Darlene (Joe) Langley, Shannon (Rusty) Harris, Bubba (Christy) Johnson, Jr., and Henry (Tammy) Johnson; her sister, Evelyn (Billy) Wilson; brother, Kenneth “Butch” Reaves; sister in law, Sandra Reaves; sister in law, Duana Reaves; eleven grandchildren, Jody (Jill) Langley, CPT Tate (Bridget) Langley, CW3 Nathan (Anna) Langley, Justin (April) Harris, Casie Harris, Rusty (Brittany) Harris, Victoria (Austin) Parkerson, Bubba Johnson, III, April (Robby) Wyman, Spencer (Metallica) Johnson, and Kaleb (Alexis) Ward; twenty-two and one on the way great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Baywoods Assembly of God (1608 Woodchuck Avenue, Pensacola 32504.) Friends will be received on Tuesday evening, January 30, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Home going services will be on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, receiving friends at 11:00 a.m., with Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Graveside service held at Whitmire Cemetery, 2:00 p.m.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
