Obituary for
Theodore Robert "Ted" Lockwood
Theodore Robert Lockwood, 88, of Pomeroy Iowa, and was residing in Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017.
Ted Lockwood was born in Ford Dodge, Iowa, to Theodore and Gertrude Lockwood, on October 4, 1929. He graduated in 1951 from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls before joining the Navy during the Korean War, where he served four years as a Naval Aerographer. After returning from Hawaii and Naval Air Station in Alameda, California, he went on to earn a Master’s degree at the University of Northern Iowa. He taught for two years in Fort Dodge before accepting a job as a counselor at the Orono School District in Long Lake, Minnesota, where he worked for 36 years. He was very involved in all athletics where he played basketball and won a state championship in high school baseball, and was an avid softball player into his 50’s. In school, he coached and umpired and participated with all his children’s athletics. Teddy (as he was affectionately called) was a member of the Maple Plain Lions, VFW, and later the Pensacola Beach Elks Lodge; he was very social and really enjoyed his time with family, friends and colleagues.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Janet Mae Lockwood.
Ted Lockwood is survived by his brother, James Lockwood; three children, Steve Lockwood and wife Cinda of Tempe, Arizona, Laura and husband David Cohen of Auburn, Washington, and Gary Lockwood and wife Charlotte of Milton, Florida; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Pensacola Beach Elks Lodge (661 Pensacola Beach Blvd., Pensacola Beach, Florida 32561; phone (850) 932-4444 ).
