Obituary for William B "Bill" Allen

William B "Bill" Allen
William B “Bill” Allen, 78, of Pace, Florida, left this Earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.

Bill was born on February 5, 1939, in Pensacola, and lived in Pace for a majority of his life. He was one of three children born to the late Burt and Alline Allen. He was a graduate of Pensacola High School and attended Pensacola Junior College for two years. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves for six years. He was a retired employee of Monsanto, with over 35 years of service, and also worked at the Pace Wal-Mart for over ten years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pace.

Bill was very involved in the baseball program with the Pace Athletic Association when his children were coming through the program. He was actively involved in the building of the first expansion of the fields that the kids played on in that program. He was a coach, friend and encourager to so many young men during that time. He also loved to fish and looked forward to spending time each year with the “Florida Gang” at Lake Martin each Spring Break. Whether it was fishing, cooking, sitting by the fire or assisting in the latest practical joke he truly loved his time at the lake- especially the company. He loved to have his family over each summer for the “fish fry” that would bring family from several states just to come and enjoy each other’s company and taste the food that was prepared under the very watchful eye of Bill Allen. The rules were simple: make sure the grease was hot, give it some hot sauce to brown the fish, don’t overcook the food and quit talking and get to work!

He enjoyed being with the love of his life, Etta B, and their marriage was an example for all to follow. Never ones to shy away from adventure as they may spend three weeks traveling up the East Coast (with their traveling companions Guy H and Lou), heading out west, or taking a day trip to Panama City, just because the moment called for that trip. It was a fun relationship of over 58 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents Burt and Alline Allen.

Bill is survived by his wife of over 58 years Etta Allen; a brother, Marvin (Carol) Allen of Tallahassee; a sister, Marie (Butch) Antone of Pensacola; a son, Jeff Allen of Pensacola; a son, Tracy (Kasi) Allen of Milton; three beautiful granddaughters, Savannah Allen of Pensacola, Alyssa Allen of Milton, and Kenzie Allen of Milton; and several nieces and nephews and their families that he loved very much.

Funeral services for Bill Allen will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Pace, with Rev. Josh Wilson and Dr. Jonathan Russell officiating. Visitation will be held 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.

The family wishes to thank everyone for all the help, care and prayers while ministering to our family the last few months. Your love is very much appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made, in Bill Allen’s name, to “Forward Faith” at Immanuel Baptist Church.
