Barbara Daniels Payne was born to Ward and Etha Daniels on August 11, 1930, in Moulton, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in Milton, Florida.

She graduated from Truman State University at the age of 19, and taught science for one year in Effingham, Illinois. She then became the Home Demonstration Agent for Effingham County for two years.

Always being an adventurous spirit, her career took her to Apalachicola, Florida, where she worked as the Home Demonstration Agent for Franklin County. She built the second house on St. George Island in 1954.

While attending a state meeting in Milton, she met Richard Payne. They were married on August 3, 1956, and she has resided in Milton, Florida, since that time. After settling in Milton, she worked in various positions including Home Demonstration Agent for Santa Rosa County. She retired as the Santa Rosa County School Food Service Director in 1992. After retirement, she spent her final years beautifying her farm in Milton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, and her husband of 46 years, Richard Payne.

She is survived by her son, Richard Payne, Jr., of Milton; her brother, Robert Daniels, of Milton; three very special friends, Bill Carroll, whom she considered her “knight in shining honor”, a longtime loyal friend, Margaret Rotenberry, and Christine Lewis, who was not only her caregiver, but faithful companion, as well as, friend for almost 40 years; two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2017, in the Bamberg Chapel of First Baptist Church of Milton, with Dr. David Spencer officiating. Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., prior to the service.
