Obituary for Lawrence Giamalva
Lawrence Giamalva, 77, of Milton, Florida, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, after a brief illness.
Larry was born May 16, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Bernard and Ida Giamalva. He joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably from 1957 to 1983. His uniformed service culminated with him retiring from NAS Whiting Field as Senior Chief of the Branch Clinic, where he continued his government service as the Branch Clinic Tricare Advisor until 2005. In 1964, while stationed in Brunswick, Georgia, he met and married his loving wife, Clara Giamalva, who preceded him in death after 49 years of marriage. Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a great-grandson, Andrew Cole Wilsnack.
He is survived by his children, Karla (Tim) Stafford and Andrea Giamalva; grandchildren, Jennifer (LT Andrew) Wilsnack, Jessica (LT Tyler) Salmon, Tyler Wessling, and Tony Giamalva-Stepanski; great-grandchildren, Blu Nims, Lily Wilsnack, Asher Wilsnack, Ozy Salmon, and Lincoln Salmon. Larry was the only son of four children and is survived by his siblings, Catherine (Lenny) Spagnolo, Leona (Bob) Hamilton and Arlene (Eric) Aschinger; several beloved in-laws; and a host of nieces and nephews who he cared for deeply.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday June 22, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Rev. Mike Poston officiating. The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 23, 2017, at Barrancas National Cemetery, onboard Pensacola Naval Air Station; with Rev. Duke Barrow officiating, and Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, directing.
The family extends a special thank you to The Terrace at Ivey Acres, Santa Rosa Health and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Dany El Sayah and Dr. Dennis Mayeaux for the great care they provided him.
